Knowl Hill Bisley

Welcome to the Bisley Campus!

Discover a place where specialised education and dedicated support can create brighter futures. The Bisley Campus, nestled in Bisley Village, Surrey, is a non-maintained specialist campus committed to providing a unique and nurturing learning environment for pupils from Year 4 to Year 11. This campus is designed for up to 60 students with dyslexia and associated co-learning difficulties, as well as those experiencing school phobia.

Our Mission and Vision

  • Vision: To provide a specialised educational environment where children and young people with specific learning difficulties and school phobia can flourish through tailored teaching, small class sizes, specialist approaches and onsite therapy.
  • Mission: To meet the increasing need for specialised education and support, ensuring children with specific learning difficulties and school phobia receive the essential education, therapy, and emotional backing to thrive and successfully reintegrate into society.

Our Unique Approach: Education Tailored to Every Child

At Bisley, we believe in a deeply individualised approach to learning. We understand that each student's journey is unique, and our dedicated team, including our therapists and on-site counsellor, expertly supports both academic aspirations and individual needs, whether specified on their EHCPs or not.

Individualised Learning: The curriculum becomes increasingly personalised as students progress through the school, ensuring their specific educational needs are met.

Small Class Sizes: Except for our introductory Alpha set for new Year 4-5 starters, classes are generally age group equivalent, with the scope of pupils’ educational needs considered in class groupings.

Building Confidence: We aim to build confidence, reduce anxiety, and provide a profound sense of safety for all our students.

Expert Support: Our team of therapists and an on-site counsellor expertly support pupils' needs. We offer specialist interventions such as Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for anxiety.

Curriculum: Inspiring a Love for Learning

Our curriculum is thoughtfully sequenced, centering around the core subjects of English, Maths, and Science. This is complemented by a strong creative arts programme, humanities, PE, Outdoor learning, and SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural development). We strive to equip pupils with essential life skills, fostering literacy, numeracy, communication, healthy relationships, and independence to lead fulfilling lives.

Curriculum Aims

To gradually reintegrate students into learning environments at their own pace.

To build confidence, reduce anxiety, and provide a sense of safety.

To develop academic skills through personalised learning plans.

To foster emotional and social development, focusing on mental health and self-regulation.

Our Curriculum Promotes

Emotional Wellbeing and Self-Regulation: Supporting students' emotional and mental health through therapeutic approaches.

Practical and Hands-On Learning: Engaging students with practical subjects that provide real-world skills and boost confidence.

Adaptability and Flexibility: Providing individualised learning plans based on each student's needs and interests.

Social Skills and Group Interaction: Encouraging teamwork, communication, and positive social interactions through collaborative activities.

Key Curriculum Areas

Core Subjects: English, Mathematics, Science

English: Develops literacy skills, including reading comprehension, writing, speaking, and listening, using individualised programs (e.g., dyslexia-friendly texts), creative writing tasks, and drama-based activities.

Mathematics: Builds essential numeracy and problem-solving abilities using manipulatives, visual aids, real-life applications (like budgeting and cooking measurements), and short, engaging activities.

Physical Education: Promotes physical well-being and stress relief through low-pressure, non-competitive activities like yoga, swimming, walking, sensory circuits, and outdoor games in a calm, supportive environment.

Specialist Interventions

We offer tailored one-to-one or small group sessions, including:

Speech and Language Therapy: To develop speech, language and communication skills.

Occupational Therapy: Focused on improving fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, and daily living skills.

Therapeutic Sessions: Including one-to-one counselling or guided relaxation techniques.

Wellbeing: The Heart of Knowl Hill School

Wellbeing is central to everything we do at Knowl Hill. Beyond a timetabled lesson, it is integral to how our teachers and therapists conduct their sessions, ensuring a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all. Our focus is on addressing anxiety, developing coping mechanisms, and fostering self-awareness. We are committed to reducing the number of students who self-exclude from school due to anxiety and related challenges.

Preparing for the Future

Our ultimate goal is for all our pupils to achieve literacy and numeracy or, for those still developing, to have a robust communication system that transitions seamlessly with them to their next educational setting. We foster independence and equip students with the skills needed to lead fulfilling lives.

Movement between campuses for pupils is a possibility. Additionally, pupils who show they are capable and confident enough to manage the demands of formal exams may be able to take GCSEs.

Our Commitment

Our team is dedicated to:

  • Providing high-quality education and therapeutic services.
  • Addressing the pressing need for specialised education for children and young people with mental health issues.
  • Expanding our reach and capacity to support more students.
